Dr. Wouter Vanhove is a researcher at the Laboratory of Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture and Ethnobotany at Ghent University’s Faculty of Bioscience Engineering. Here, he studies the sustainability of tropical and subtropical agriculture and food systems, or more specifically the diversity, conservation and use of underutilized fruit species, and the ethnobotany (medicinal and food plant use) of ethnic communities in Sub Saharan Africa.
Wouter has specialized in the agronomy of cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.), with a focus on agroforestry, integrated soil fertility management, integrated pest management, cocoa farm ecology and cocoa pollination in Southeast Aisa and West Africa. He further contributes to studies on the relationship between (agro)biodiversity and human nutrition.
