Annalisa Piras

The Wake Europe Project, Founder and Director

Annalisa Piras is an award-winning Italian-Britishfilmmaker, journalist and media consultant renowned for her incisive coverage of European political and social affairs. With a career spanning over three decades, she was a founding member of the pan-European news channel Euronews and served as the London correspondent for L’Espresso and La7 TV. Piras is widely recognized for her documentary work, most notably the feature film Girlfriend in a Coma, co-written with former Economist editor Bill Emmott, and The Great European Disaster Movie, which examines the existential challenges facing the European Union.

Beyond her work in traditional media, Piras is a prominent advocate for civil discourse and media literacy. She is the co-founder and director of the Wake Up Foundation and the Wake Up Europe Project, educational initiatives designed to foster public awareness and democratic engagement through storytelling and film. A frequent commentator for global outlets like the BBC, Sky News, and The Guardian, she specializes in translating complex geopolitical issues into compelling narratives. Piras continues to lead Springshot Productions, where she focuses on hard-hitting current affairs documentaries that bridge the gap between academic analysis and public understanding.
