The Future of CAP

The Future of CAP is a three year initiative that runs until 2027 in collaboration with the Novo Nordisk Foundation. This project is premised on the urgent need for a transformative approach towards the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), one that prioritises sustainability and innovation at its core. The main objective is to establish a resilient, inclusive and forward-looking food policy framework that harmonises agricultural practices with environmental sustainability, enhances food security, and fosters innovation across the food system.

The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), a cornerstone of European agricultural unity and cohesion, is at a crossroads as discussions on the post-2027 CAP are evolving. Further complicating the landscape is Ukraine’s potential EU accession, which has ignited concerns over CAP’s future.

This project, therefore, stands at a crucial juncture, aiming to leverage the pressing need for scheduled CAP reform in light of EU enlargement and looming crises. By fostering a transformative dialogue on agriculture and food systems in Europe, this initiative seeks to cultivate a more inclusive, collaborative approach. It aims to transcend traditional agricultural discussions, advocating for a holistic policy framework that embraces the entire food value chain, recognising the interconnectivity of agriculture, environment, health, and society at large. In doing so, it endeavours to craft a future where European agriculture and food systems are synonymous with sustainability and innovation.
