Pathways to Better Dialogue on Sustainable Food Systems – Report

Debates around Europe’s food systems are increasingly polarised, with competing priorities on sustainability, productivity, and rural livelihoods creating barriers to progress.  To address this, Re-Imagine Europa (RIE) and All European Academies (ALLEA) established a Stakeholder Advisory Group on Decoding Polarisation in Debates on Sustainable Food Systems.

This flagship report presents the outcomes of the Group’s work, which included three workshops bringing together farmers, policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders. It explores the root causes of polarisation, identifies barriers to constructive dialogue, and maps the diverse interests and concerns that shape debates around the future of European agriculture.

By highlighting practical pathways to foster trust, transparency and collaboration across the value chain, the report offers recommendations for stakeholders seeking to engage more effectively and build consensus on sustainable food system solutions.
