From AI ambition to public-sector capacity: Introducing MagiX
Artificial intelligence is already changing how governments work. Across Europe, public authorities are exploring its potential to improve services, support decision-making and respond more effectively to complex social challenges. Yet the success of this transformation will depend on more than the technology itself. It will depend on the people asked to understand it, govern it and put it to work in the public interest.
This is the challenge at the heart of AI4Gov ACCELERATE (AI4Gov-X), a four-year initiative co-funded by the European Union’s Digital Europe Programme. Bringing together over 40 organisations, the project is building a new European ecosystem for education, experimentation and collaboration around artificial intelligence, data spaces and digital governance.
MagiX: preparing the public-sector leaders of tomorrow
At the centre of the project is MagiX, a new 1st Level Specialising Master in Artificial Intelligence, Governance Innovation and Digital Transformation. Delivered by Politecnico di Milano together with 15 leading European institutions, the programme is designed for civil servants, policymakers, public-sector professionals, academics and researchers, early-career professionals – essentially anyone seeking to lead the next generation of responsible digital transformation!
The programme brings technical, managerial and policy perspectives together. Rather than treating AI as a subject reserved for technologists, MagiX focuses on the practical capabilities needed to make informed decisions about its use.
Students begin with a common core before selecting a specialisation aligned with their professional interests or institutional needs. The programme also incorporates practical learning and a final project, allowing participants to connect new knowledge to real challenges in government and public administration.
MagiX is delivered entirely online and is designed to be compatible with full-time employment. The first edition will run from November 2026 and awards 60 ECTS credits. Up to 300 participants can join the first cohort, creating a diverse European learning community able to share experiences across institutions, disciplines and national contexts.
Financial support is available to help widen access to these opportunities. Through the project’s cascade funding call, eligible participants can apply for reimbursement of up to 50% of the costs of approved extracurricular activities, capped at €5,000. Eligible MagiX students undertaking an internship may also apply for a top-up matching their internship stipend or salary, again up to €5,000, subject to the call conditions.
Applications for the first MagiX cohort are open until 1 October 2026 and are assessed on a rolling basis. The programme begins on 1 November 2026, is fully online and costs €3,000.
